Teatro Concordia
Site: Mestre, Italy
This Design 7 group project envisions an opera house that serves as an extension of the piazza in order to create a “third space” for the community. More than a venue for performance, our building is meant to act as an open civic stage where daily life and culture intersect.
Overview
Teatro Concordia is located in Piazza Erminio Ferretto, a square in Mestre, Italy nestled close to the rio Magellano. Mestre is an urban area situated approx. 6 miles outside of Venice, and is known for its residential and commercial spaces. Originally an industrial and shipping port, Mestre has since grown into a city that thrives on commerce and tourism. In addition to creating these sketches, I also produced the digital renders, digital site map, and physical building model (which is featured on the front and back pages of this portfolio, placed on our class site model). My group partner and I worked in tandem on the digital 3D model, plan drawings, and section drawings.

The exterior design of our building was inspired by Mestre’s layered history, translating its rich memory into a contemporary facade and form. By blending performance and public life, our opera house evolved into a shared space of culture and community.
